When One Door Closes, Another One Opens

Image
Hello all!! This week was really great but definitely had its ups and downs. Probably the best example would be the people we had to stop teaching because of a lack of progress or desire. Its always really hard to make the decision to stop teaching someone, especially because its easy to think that there is something more that I could do to help them. But in the end, sometimes we need to give up something good for something better. And that's exactly what happened this week.  We had an amazing lesson with the mother of a recent convert. She is super interested and loved going to church. I'm super excited to keep teaching her! We also meat this amazing old man who already knows basically everything. (I think he has a lot of family who are members) We just have to work with him and help him start coming to church. And at the weekly soccer activity at the chapel, we met a kid who knows a ton about the bible and who is super curious about the church, so were excited to start wor...

Zone Conference and Goals

Image
Hey all!! How it going? This week felt pretty, but I have absolutely no idea why so you can forget I just said that lol. This week was another zone conference which is always such an amazing experience and opportunity to learn.  We focused a lot on the simple fact that as missionaries, we are representing Christ, and in order to represent Him, we must do our very best to really know Him and his teachings. We also talked about the focus we need to have to working with members and how much easier the work is when we include them. All in all, an incredible opportunity to learn. Me and my companion have been able to set some really great goals so that this next week we can refocus on helping people to read and gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon. This week as well we ended up heading to the farthest part of our area which is 30 minutes of walking and then an hour long bus ride. Unfortunately, our most important lesson there didn't end up happening because the person we were t...

Tu Viu! Oloko!

Hey all!  I think this week it will be a short email, but I'm doing really well!  This week we had another baptism and confirmation. Maria Silva has been taught for a while now (I think for basically as long as I've been here in Brazil) and I'm honored to have been able to help her finally be baptized. And she has one daughter who we are hoping we will be able to teach more soon! This week we were able to teach a lot of lessons and work with a lot of people who are progressing. Although we don't have a baptism scheduled for this coming week, we have a lot of people who are close, and in the coming weeks I hope they will accept the invitation to be baptized! This week I've been working on my Portuguese vocab so that I can sound more Brazilian lol. Some of the best phrases are oloko, tu viu?? and ó gloria. Here pretty soon I'm gonna be able to convince everyone that I'm Brazilian haha. This week we were also able to find guaraná dos amazonias, (basically a b...

New Transfer!!!

Image
Hey all!! Its been a few weeks since I last sent out an email, but I'm doing really well! The biggest news is that i have been Transferred to a new area which includes Marcos Freire and Muribeca. I left behind a few families who were really progressing but I know that they're in good hands. And I showed up here to find a lot of amazing people to teach! Our biggest challenge right now us staying organized enough to help everyone who is progressing. A big part of this problem is that our area is so big that it can be a little complicated to plan well enough that we aren't waiting time walking all day lol. Last week was Carnival here in Brazil, but because of the pandemic, nothing to crazy happened. There were a lot of people partying and the such but it was always in there houses or just in the front of their houses, so it never interfered with our work This week we actually had a baptism! Rafael was baptized on Saturday and this week he is working in receiving the priesthood...
