Portuguese, Portuguese, and More ... Portuguese

Hi all! This week was the week at the MTC that I switched to instructors who refuse to speak any more English. That's not entirely true. When the whole class is completely confused or when they are telling us cool stories about their own missions they will use some English, but for the most part, all of my class is in Portuguese now. Not going to lie, I was a little scared for that change, but everything went well, and I think I surprised myself with how much I am able to understand. In the grand scheme of things, I am nowhere near fluent. The instructors speak slow and have to repeat almost everything they say, but I'm still proud that I can understand anything after only four weeks of MTC. In other news, I heard from my Mission President in Denver, which is where I will be serving until I get my visa and can go to Brazil. I'm really excited to get out and start teaching in the mission field in just a few weeks. I love MTC, but I won't lie that sitting in front of a ...

Half Way Done with the MTC

Hi all! I just finished my third week at the MTC which marks halfway. I think I've said this in every email so far, but I can't believe it's already been another week, and that I only have three more weeks before my MTC experience is over and I enter the mission field.  This week was a little exhausting. I made the goal to learn 50 new words in Portuguese every day, and that along with the usual work and expectations of the MTC made sure I was using every extra minute to work on something. In preparation for this coming week when I switch to instructors who will only speak in Portuguese, my teachers used more Portuguese and less English. The added attention required to try to understand Portuguese also made class more exhausting. But I think I'm making really good progress with the language, and I am loving everything I'm learning so I don't mind being a little extra tired. Plus, I made it to my P-day which hopefully is a nice break be...

More Class and More Portuguese

Olá de novo! First off, I guess my email last week didn't get sent to everyone I thought it did, but I think I got everything fixed. So sorry if you didn't get my email last week! If you didn't and would like me to resend it to you I would be happy to do that as well. And again if you know of anyone else who would like to receive these emails please let me know.  Now, where to begin. This week really flew by. The days have been long but the weeks have been fast, and it's crazy to think that I'm a third of the way done with the MTC. This week in terms of schedule was very similar to last week. Every day I've had several hours of class on zoom where I practice Portuguese, study the scriptures, practice teaching, and learn how to be a great missionary. Again the hardest part has been learning Portuguese. My instructors are starting to use less and less English as they teach us, and by the end of next week, all of my classes will be in Portuguese. I am at the point...

The first week of the MTC!

Olá everyone! First off, this is my first email, so I'm still trying to make sure everyone who wants my emails are getting them. If you don't want to be on this email list or you know someone else who does want to be added to the list, please let me know. I also wanted to let you all know that until I get my Visa and can go to Brazil, I was temporarily resigned to serve in the Colorado Denver North Mission. Today is the first p-day of my mission, and so far everything has been great! Things have definitely been a little crazy with moving to Utah and trying to move into a new house right as I was starting home MTC, but it's all worked out and I know that the Lord has been a part of the entire process. It's still crazy to think that I am a missionary and that I am only five weeks away from entering the mission field, but I'm so excited. I've only been at the MTC for a week, but I've already learned so much. We have talked a ton about the missionary purpose t...
