Americans Working Miracles in Brazil
Hey all!!
First of all, I can't believe Christmas is this week! But I know that every other missionary is going to be titling their email something about Christmas so I decided to change things up a bit. Plus, I am finally here with my new companion, so we're hoping that we really can work miracles as a couple of Americans walking around Brazil.
This week was really great though, and I am finally in my area again with Elder Miner!
The majority of this week, I was still with the Elders in Ibura. We worked a lot in Ibura and tried our best to work online in Lagoa as well, but it's just a tad bit hard to find people when you're not in your area. It ended up working out really well though because my district leader got permission to do a mini exchange with me after district council this week, so for one day I was in my area with him. We tried to visit a bunch of people who were being taught before, but let's just say the records in this area are pretty unorganized. But it was good to teach a few people and meet some more members, but a lot of what we did that day was try (unsuccessfully) to track people down.
Then on Friday, I went to the mission offices to meet my new companion Elder Miner! We had a bunch of trainings with President and the secretaries like normal when new missionaries arrive. And then lunch, which was really great like always. Then that afternoon we headed to Lagoa to start working.
This week, or should I say the last few days, has been a lot of trying to get to know new people and the ward. I was feeling a little frustrated when we had barely found anyone to teach after so much work, but then yesterday we had something amazing happen. We were at church and a member said that she had someone for us to teach. There is a girl who is friends with this member family who will be turning nine in January and who wants to get baptized / have a birthday party together. So we agreed to visit her that same day to start to teach her. We started to teach her and her family and ended up being able to set a date for her baptism, and for her cousin as well who participated in the lesson. I am super excited to start working with this family and helping Ana Luisa, Agatha, and Jaqueline learn more about the joy of the gospel!
This week, I am super excited for a big whole mission Christmas Zone Conference, and for the chance to use the spirit of Christmas to help bring more and more families closer to our Savior!
Another random story for this week... The chapel here in this area is pretty unusual. I think it was converted from a warehouse type building, but anyways there are parts that are just open to the outside. And today, while we were at the chapel we saw monkeys... inside the chapel haha.
But that's pretty much it for this week. I hope you are all doing well, and have an amazing Christmas! Remember the wonderful life of our Savior and make sure to think of ways that you can help others to become closer to him!
